Home is where the Heart Is….

Materials used:
  • 1 x A4 and 1 x A5 piece of black cardstock.
  • 1 x A5 piece of watercolour card.
  • 1 x A5 white cardstock.
  • Different colours of green cardstock.
  • Different types and colours of backing papers.
  • Tim Holtz Alterations on the Edge ‘Townscape’ die.
  • Beeswax.
  • Distress Inks in black soot, crushed olive, tea die and antique linen.
  • Adirondack ink in ‘Woodlands.’
  • Cut and dry foam.
  • Cosmic Shimmer Acrylic glue.
  • Cosmic Shimmer water colour paint in blue.
  • Words printed on white cardstock via computer ‘Home is where the heart is.’
  1. On watercolour card use blue watercolour paint and mix the translucency giving a blue sky/cloud effect.
  2. Draw freehand and cut out, different coloured green hills from cardstock, for the front of the card. (I used 8).
  3. Stick 2/3rds of the ‘sky’ card and the ‘hills to the A5 black card.
  4. Cut out at least 7 dies of the townscape in black card and 7 in different backing papers.
  5. Glue the papers to the black card.  (At this point all the houses are 1 die).
  6. Cut the houses out individually from the die to mix and match them on the hills.  Use cut and dry foam to put Black Soot distress ink onto the roof and one side of the house.  Do not stick them down until you are happy with the combination of coloured papers.  This is a good way of using up your scraps.
  7. I have used 3 rows of houses and left 3 rows of green hills free at the bottom of the card.
  8. On green card draw another hill but this time extend the card so that it can wrap around the back of the black card giving you a 3rd dimension to the front of your card and it will open.  Cut out another piece of backing paper to go onto the back of this piece of card.  This is to hide the glued houses you will be putting on the green card.  Stick the houses onto this piece of card, then, stick the backing paper to the rear of the card.  Then stick the extended piece around the rear of the card so that the front will open.
  9. Print out twice on white cardstock the ‘Home is where the heart is’ saying.   Die cut the tag twice with the words on it.  Use the distress inks to colour the labels.
  10. Take one of the labels and cut the words from it.  Heat a small amount of beeswax and cover the tag with it, then crack it once cool and fill in the cracks with antique linen distress ink giving it an antique feel.
  11. Stick this onto the top of the full tag then to the front of the card.
  12. Take the Heartfelt Creations die and cut it out in white card.  Use Crushed Olive distress ink and Woodlands Adirondack ink to colour it.  Take a part of the cut out die and stick to the front of the card in the sky, to imitate the sunshine over the houses.
  13. Finish off by sticking the finished article to an A5 card.
