I started off with the faux geli plate
background and then stamped out our friend Jammin, and the flower, cake and candle from a set I’ve had for ages.
I looked at the Stampotique stamp and thought it looked like he was holding something and so the idea of the cup cake was born.
The words It’s a piece of cake I typed onto my computer printed it out and had a circle punch and layered it onto the flower. On my research for this weeks project I was looking at birthday phrases and this jumped out at me for the definition of where the phrase came from:
Referring to something as a “piece of cake” is often used to describe a situation that was easy, or required little effort. How did the term cake come to mean easy?
The idea of cake being “easy” originated in the 1870’s when cakes were given out as prizes for winning competitions. In particular, there was a tradition in the US slavery states where slaves would circle around a cake at a gathering. The most “graceful” pair would win the cake in the middle. From this the term “cake walk” and “piece of cake” came into being, both meaning that something was easy to accomplish.
The term was first used in print in 1936 by Ogden Nash who wrote, “Her picture’s in the papers now, and life’s a piece of cake.”
Everything has been coloured in with Promarkers and the cake topping and candle I have added Glossy Accents.
I have added a Glintz glass dome (from Eco Green range) over the words. These are FAB to highlight words or pictures as they make whatever you put underneath magnified. You glue then on with a glue that dries clear. Mine was Cosmic Shimmer.
Then came my Pièce de résistance I was looking for something to put in the right hand corner of my tag when I noticed what the stamp was called. Well – I nearly wet myself with laughter ……
It’s a piece of cake with jam in!!!!!
Sorry my sense of humour……
and there you have it.
